Hybrid Child Autism Assessment

Assessing a child for autism is a structured process designed to understand communication, social interaction, behaviour, and developmental history.
How the hybrid pathway works
-
Most of the assessment is completed remotely, including screening, history gathering and parent interviews
-
One brief face‑to‑face appointment is required to complete a structured observation
-
This ensures a high‑quality, NICE‑aligned autism assessment
-
Families can choose from available clinic locations depending on psychiatrist availability
-
The face‑to‑face session is led by our consultant psychiatrist
This includes:
-
Screening: Initial concerns explored through standardised questionnaires and checklists completed by parents and teachers
-
History Gathering: Detailed developmental, social, behavioural and educational history
-
Clinical Interview: Structured interview with parents/carers
-
Observation: A brief in‑person observation using structured tools to assess communication, social interaction and behaviour
-
Diagnostic Formulation: A clear diagnostic formulation based on all information gathered
-
Post‑Diagnostic Psychoeducation: Guidance for parents/carers and the young person
(Teacher questionnaires and school information may be requested where appropriate.)
